Pop icon Nelly Furtado has announced a major shift in her musical journey. On the 25-year anniversary of her debut album Whoa, Nelly!, the Grammy-winning artist revealed she will step away from live performances “for the foreseeable future”.
In an emotional Instagram post, Furtado reflected on her decades in the spotlight and the joy of seeing her music embraced by a new generation of fans. She wrote:

“I have enjoyed my career immensely … I still love writing music … I’ll identify as a songwriter forever.”
While she didn’t go so far as to say she’s retiring completely, the announcement signals a clear stop to performances and touring. Her final live set reportedly took place this summer at Superbloom 2025 in Munich.

Instead, Furtado says she’ll channel her energy into “other creative and personal endeavours that I feel would better suit this next phase of my life.”
Fans responded with an outpouring of emotion. One wrote:
“Forever an icon.”
For now, the stage lights may dim—but for Nelly Furtado, the songwriting pen remains alive and well.
