During an appearance on Jon Stewart’s The Weekly Show podcast, former Vice President Kamala Harris unleashed a fiery, profanity-laced critique of Donald Trump, focusing on his decision to proceed with a $300 million privately funded White House ballroom renovation even as federal food assistance is threatened by a government shutdown.
At one point, Harris exclaimed, “Are you f—ing kidding me?”, questioning how Trump could prioritize a luxury renovation while millions faced the loss of SNAP benefits in the coming hours. She criticized the move as tone-deaf and symbolic of misplaced priorities.
When asked whether Democrats should adopt a more direct style similar to Trump’s, Harris pushed back:
“It’s important we not conflate disruption with destruction.”

Her remarks place renewed attention on the ballroom project, which has become a focal point in Democratic criticism of Trump — seen by many as emblematic of excess and indifference amid ongoing economic challenges.
Meanwhile, Senate Republicans continue to block legislation that would temporarily restore SNAP payments, despite pressure that such a move is straightforward and urgent given the widespread impact of food insecurity.
