In the new three-part HBO docuseries “Alex vs. A-Rod”, former baseball star Alex Rodriguez delves into the highs and lows of his public and private life. Alongside his own reflections, the series features intimate contributions from his daughters, Natasha and Ella Rodriguez, and his ex-wife, Cynthia Scurtis — who each offer their own vulnerable perspectives on family, fame and fatherhood.
His younger daughter, Ella (17), candidly shares her discomfort with being labeled simply “A-Rod’s daughter.” She says, “I don’t like calling myself ‘A-Rod’s daughter.’ … It’s always just been a little bit weird for me.” Meanwhile, his elder daughter, Natasha (20), currently studying at the University of Michigan, describes herself and her father as “carbon copies” in ambition and drive.

Cynthia Scurtis, Rodriguez’s ex-wife, opens up about the pressures of their marriage while he played for the Yankees, noting that although it was exciting it was also really hard: “You’re on a baseball schedule … I’m not going to pretend that it was wonderful. It was not wonderful.” She emphasizes how the public scrutiny and unconventional work-life environment impacted their family dynamic.
Rodriguez himself reflects on his role as a father and his relationship with his daughters and Cynthia: he calls being part of their lives “the most rewarding part of my life.”

The series sets out to explore the dualities in Rodriguez’s life—from prodigy and superstar to the challenges of personal growth and legacy. With this family-centered lens, “Alex vs. A-Rod” aims to provide a fuller, rawer portrait of Rodriguez beyond the headlines.
