Donald J. Trump Says He’s ‘Too Bad’ He Can’t Run for a Third Term

In a recent interview while aboard Air Force One en route to South Korea, Donald J. Trump admitted that he is constitutionally barred from running for a third term as U.S. president—and said it’s “too bad.”

Trump cited the Twenty‑second Amendment, which states a person cannot be elected president more than twice.

At the same time, he didn’t fully rule out other possibilities, such as maintaining influence or paving the way for successors like Marco Rubio or J.D. Vance.

House Speaker Mike Johnson echoed the constitutional constraints, saying discussions with Trump confirm there is no viable path for a third term under current law.

This acknowledgment comes amid earlier suggestions—by Trump himself and allies—that he might explore unconventional pathways to remain in power beyond two terms.

While the reality is clear for now—no third term according to the Constitution—the comments underscore Trump’s ongoing political clout and the evolving discussion around his legacy and future influence.
