On Saturday night, veteran firefighter Patrick Brady, age 42, tragically lost his life battling a five‑alarm blaze in Brownsville, Brooklyn.
Brady was operating on the roof of a six‑story apartment building located at 9407 Kings Highway when he suffered a medical episode and went into cardiac arrest. He was treated on scene and then transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
An 11‑year veteran of the FDNY, Brady joined the department on July 14, 2014. He initially served with Engine 227 and later transferred to Ladder 120 in 2022. He lived in Queens and came from a family of firefighters — his brothers Jimmy and Brian are also FDNY members, as are cousins and uncles.
Mayor Eric Adams and FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker issued statements honoring Brady’s bravery and service. The FDNY noted that Brady becomes the 1,163rd member to die in the line of duty.
A dignified transfer ceremony was held early Sunday morning outside Brookdale Hospital, attended by approximately 250 firefighters paying respects to their fallen comrade.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Funeral arrangements for Firefighter Brady have not yet been announced.
