Florida Man Faces Death Penalty After Killing Pregnant Teen

A Florida man, Donovan Faison, 23, has been convicted in the killing of his 18-year-old pregnant girlfriend, Kaylin Fiengo, and now faces the death penalty. According to prosecutors, Fiengo discovered she was pregnant and notified Faison of the news, prompting him to demand she get an abortion.
When she refused, Faison lured her to a secluded park in Sanford, Florida, and fatally shot her in her car. At the scene, investigators found an ultrasound image of the unborn child.

Court testimony revealed text messages from Faison showing his anger and threats if she did not comply. One message read: “On my brother’s grave, I’m gonna crop her out,” sent after Fiengo confirmed the pregnancy.

The jury found the killing to be coldly premeditated and recommended the death penalty by an 11-1 vote. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for early December.
The case has become a focal point for discussions on violence against pregnant women, unborn-child protections under the law, and the use of the death penalty in cases involving murder plus fetal death.
The victim’s family described Fiengo as a young mother of a toddler who had hoped the pregnancy was a new start. They expressed profound sorrow that her life—and the life of her unborn baby—were taken in such a violent manner.
